The formula

Percentage = marks scored ÷ total marks × 100. That is all a marks percentage ever is — the same "part of a whole" question as the main percentage calculator's "X is what % of Y" mode.

Letter grade reference

Many schools map percentages to letters on a 90/80/70/60 scale: 90% and above is an A, 80–89% a B, 70–79% a C, 60–69% a D, and below 60% an F. Treat this strictly as a reference — boards and universities use different scales (some use 10-point CGPA conversions, UK degrees use classification bands starting far lower, and many courses grade on a curve). Your institution's scale is the one that counts.

Several subjects?

Add up all the marks scored and all the totals first, then divide once. Averaging the individual percentages gives a different (wrong, unless every paper has the same total) answer, because it weights a 20-mark quiz the same as a 100-mark exam.
