Percentage Change Calculator

One tool for both directions — the result is signed, so an increase shows as positive and a decrease as negative.

Quick answer: from 80 to 92 the change is +15%; from 92 back to 80 it is −13.04%. The base is always the first value.

The formula

Percentage change = (new − old) ÷ old × 100. If the result is positive the value increased; if negative, it decreased. Percentage change is the right tool when there is a clear before and after — prices over time, salary revisions, month-on-month metrics. When there is no natural "before" — comparing two products, two measurements, two people's scores — use percentage difference instead, which compares against the average of the two.

A common mix-up: percent vs percentage points

An interest rate rising from 3% to 5% has risen by 2 percentage points, but by 66.67% in percentage-change terms. News reports use percentage points for rates precisely because the two numbers tell very different stories.
