The six percentage questions

Almost every percentage problem is one of six shapes. The tabs above switch between them: a percent of a number, one number as a percent of another, the change between an old and a new value, a value increased or decreased by a percent, and the difference between two values where neither is the original. Picking the right shape matters more than the arithmetic — a 25% increase followed by a 25% decrease does not bring you back to the start, because the second percent is measured against a different base.
